March 2010: New Beginnings

Spring is now upon us and we have started to see the signs of new life in gardens, hedgerows and the surrounding countryside.  Plants are beginning to grow again after the prolonged period of snow and ice; we can see young lambs in the fields; birds have been searching for places to build nests, perhaps tidying up old nests from last year, ready to lay their eggs.  It’s a time when nature seems to be bursting with new life, which is so refreshing after the long cold winter we have just had.  Perhaps seeing all this even gives us the urge to spring clean our homes and give them a new feeling of freshness too?

You are probably aware that our church hall in Ashby has been undergoing some major renovations, meaning the coffee mornings and other activities have been put on hold for the last year.  There is genuine feeling of excitement now as we see the finishing touches being made, knowing that in the coming weeks we’ll moving back in – it’s a new start for all of us.  [We hope you’ll also drop in and see our newly improved facilities – watch out for information about our opening events.]

We often ‘look forward’ to things in our lives and have to wait patiently for other things to take place before these can happen.  Just as the signs of spring encourage us to look forward to the warmth of summer, Jesus told his disciples (and us) to watch for signs of his return to earth.  The current world events (earthquakes, wars, famines, unrest) are very much pointing to his imminent return. Those who are watching for this event are looking forward a time which will be far better than any before. Read the Bible today to discover what is around the corner and give yourself something amazing to look forward to.

Useful passage to look up:  Matthew Chapter 24
